The Toronto Maple Leafs have a passionate group of fans that will often go above and beyond for their team, so we saw the most talked about fans from last night coming from a mile away.
The New York Islanders were in town and as you are probably aware, their captain, John Tavares, is an unrestricted free agent on July 1. As they do with most players born and raised in the Toronto area, rumours have swirled about him signing with the Leafs long term. He has been pretty hush on rumours and has stuck to his guns saying he wants to play for the Islanders, but will also probably hit the market as a free agent.
Regardless of what is possible or probable in free agency, fans like to have fun with these dream scenarios and two fans had a lot of fun with it last night. All over social media were the two guys wearing Leafs Tavares jerseys (There’s a third one as well, but the name isn’t stitched in like the others).
Who knows what Tavares will do when or if he ends up in free agency, but these guys are prepared for anything. Luckily for fans that get a little ahead of themselves, they can probably just use the Stamkos jerseys they bought a couple years ago and switch the nameplates.
