If you weren’t a tennis fan before the US Open, you’ve probably started to become one thanks to Bianca Andreescu.

The 19-year-old Mississauga, Ontario native became the first Canadian to advance to the US Open singles final on Thursday night after she defeated Belinda Bencic in straight sets and now she’ll go up against Serena Williams in a rematch of the Rogers Cup final. Across the country fans have tuned in to watch her incredible run and one of those fans happens to be Wayne Gretzky.

On Friday night, TSN’s Mark Roe caught up with The Great One to get his thoughts on Andreescu’s run and what she’s been doing for tennis in Canada and he had nothing but praise for the young Canadian phenom.

Gretzky compared Andreescu to Bobby Clarke because of how hard she works both on and off the court, and even if he wasn’t the greatest player of all-time he was someone you didn’t want to mess with, so that’s a pretty sweet compliment, especially coming from Gretzky. The NHL’s all-time leading scorer also shouted out Milos Raonic, Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime for everything they’ve done for tennis in Canada over the past few years.

The rematch between Andreescu and Serena Williams will take place on Sunday afternoon and you can catch the action on TSN.
