A lot of soccer fans thought that when Wayne Rooney made the move to the MLS to join DC United that soccer fans in North America were only going to see a shadow of his former self, but that hasn’t been the case at all.

Last year Rooney scored 12 goals and added 7 assists in 18 starts and he’s on pace to set new highs across the board this season. The 33-year-old entered Wednesday night’s match against Orlando City with 8 goals and 5 assists in 15 starts and he added to his yearly totals in the most impressive way.

Rooney caught Orlando City goalkeeper Brian Rowe out of position and he made him pay in quite possibly the most embarrassing way with an absolute screamer from beyond midfield.

The English forward leads DC United in every offensive category with 9 goals, 5 assists and 54 shots, and those numbers are only going to continue to go up with 17 regular season matches left on the schedule.
