Will Auston Matthews be captain of the Toronto Maple Leafs next season?

That question may be on the mind of fans league wide, but according to the 19-year-old forward, it's not on his mind. Speaking with reporters on Sunday, Matthews was asked whether or not he really thinks about the Leafs' captaincy since so many people outside of the organization believe that the C will belong to him soon enough. Matthews's response? Nope!

It's an answer that Leafs fans will likely enjoy hearing, as it's certainly reflective of a mature, focused player who is putting the team's concerns before his own. It's definitely not an outlandish question either, as not only has Matthews performed extremely well this season -- breaking records left right and center -- he's leading an incredibly strong rookie core on a young team.

Last October, Connor McDavid became the youngest captain in NHL history after a spectacular rookie campaign with the Edmonton Oilers. Will the Leafs do the same with Matthews next season? Only time will tell, but in the meantime, Matthews has his sights set elsewhere.
