A lot of hockey fans were expecting the Colorado Avalanche to protect Calvin Pickard over Semyon Varlamov when the NHL Expansion Draft rolled around, but they decided to stick with the veteran instead.

As expected, Pickard was claimed by the Golden Knights in the Expansion Draft but he was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs a few months later.

Now that the 25-year-old is a member of the Maple Leafs organization, Pickard retired his Golden Knights mask and had a new one made up to match his new blue and white uniforms.

Pickard’s new Maple Leafs mask was designed by David Gunnarsson and looks very sharp as it has an old school meets new school type of feel.

The former second round draft pick has played three games with the Toronto Marlies and is 1-2 with a 3.44 goals against average and a .892 save percentage.
