Craig Kimbrel is known for two things; his lights-out ability as the Boston Red Sox closer, and his unique pre-pitch stance in which he leans in towards the plate and extends his arm out in a pterodactyl-wing fashion.

On Thursday, Kimbrel added something else to be remembered by.

Kimbrel came into the 9th inning of a game against the Milwaukee Brewers and managed to strikeout all three batters he faced, while needing only the minimum nine pitches to do so. He became the 78th pitcher to throw what is known as an “immaculate inning” and the 83rd all-time (Lefty Grove, Randy Johnson, and Nolan Ryan each accomplished it twice while Sandy Koufax had three immaculate innings).

What makes Kimbrel’s outing even more impressive is that he struck out two batters in the 8th inning as well (he also gave up an infield single), continuing an impressive stretch of pitching.

Well the powerhouse Red Sox’s mediocre start to the season has left fans questioning what’s wrong, the people of Boston making sure to focus on the positives.
