Oh my god, David Ayres did it again — in NHL 20, at least.

The Carolina Hurricanes are continuing their season despite the NHL’s hiatus by way of a NHL 20 simulation, and in their sim against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, Ayres took the crease once again — this time as the Canes’ (virtual) starting goaltender, instead of as an emergency back-up.

And oh yes, he made 75 saves against the Leafs in a 7-5 win.

Don’t read too deeply into the ridiculous number of saves — that’s a byproduct of the simulation, as we found out when a virtual Cory Schneider saved 98 of 102 shots a few weeks ago.

Still, any reason to continue growing the legend of David Ayres is certainly a good one, especially when there isn’t much in the way of actual hockey being played.

And if there any aspiring David Ayreses out there trying to up their game during social distancing, the real deal even has a training tip for you... Nerf blasters.
