He’s one of the best dressed athletes in professional sports, and is the reigning NBA’s MVP. Sometimes, Russell Westbrook’s clothing outfits have underlying messages that throws NBA Twitter for a loop.

Following the Thunder’s preseason win over Melbourne United, Westbrook was circled by a group of reporters for a post-game scrum. While he didn’t say anything polarizing, it was his shirt that did all the talking with the “phrase adopt a cat” written across his shirt.

Now maybe Westbrook is a fan of felines and is an advocate for cap adoption, and is using his platform to let the world know that he wants you to go to your local shelter and adopt a cat. Post-game scrums are often a time some athletes will use to promote a certain product, brand, or message. But being a proponent of cap adoption seems a little odd, though, doesn’t it?

Well, if you flashback to Kevin Durant’s eccentric tweet where it looked like he forgot to switch over to a potential ghost Twitter account by talking in third-person.

Durant referred to his former Thunder teammates as “cats” and said it wouldn’t be possible to win a championship with that group.

Durant has claimed in the past that he operates a ghost Instagram account, but denied using fake Twitter accounts.

So, was this a jab from Westbrook at his former teammate? The internet sure thinks so.

Now, this story is definitely on the petty side of the spectrum, and while we all could be reading too much into this, it's hard to think that Westrbook was simply supporting kitty cats given the history of Russ throwing subtle jabs at Duran't direction. One thing that we can all agree on is that the NBA is always giving its fans entertainment, and it doesn’t always have to be on the basketball court.

Westbrook and the Thunder host the Warriors on November 22nd. Don’t be surprised if the Thunder have promotional cat night.
