The beginning of the NHL season is now less than a week away and we couldn't be more excited.

It's bittersweet, though, knowing that for the first time since the 2009-10 season, Jaromir Jagr might not be on the ice playing for an NHL team.

Jaromir #Jagr hasn't ruled out staying in Czech Republic in order to prepare for the #Olympics.

It has been reported that Jagr could play for his hometown this season and then represent his country in the Olympics, or that he could start the season playing for Kladno and make his way over to the NHL during the season.

Obviously hockey fans would love to see him in the NHL at some point, but it seemed like it would be later rather than sooner based on this report that Jagr would be playing for Kladno this Saturday.

It looks like plans have changed, though, and it has everything to do with the NHL.

What's important to note there is that it's not just one team talking to Jagr, it's clubs talking to him.

On Thursday we learned that the Blues had talked about Jagr internally, but after reportedly signing Scottie Upshall in the wake of the injury to Robby Fabbri, it appears unlikely Jagr will end up in St. Louis.

That said, Jagr not playing Saturday seems like the first step to him signing with a team in (hopefully) the near future.
