When Patrik Laine stayed down after colliding with Buffalo Sabres defenceman Jake McCabe on Saturday afternoon, just about every Winnipeg Jets fan held their breath. The news didn’t get any better on Sunday, as head coach Paul Maurice confirmed that the rookie did indeed have a concussion and would be sidelined indefinitely.
However, while Laine got the worst of it all, McCabe didn’t exactly walk away from it all without any damage done to himself. Here’s a photo of him after Saturday’s game.
The damage is probably a mixture of the hit and the pile-up that occurred after he connected with Laine, but it’s safe to say that he was also in some pain after that one. A lot of the players from both sides have already come out and agreed that it was a clean hit in open ice, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to forget about this the next time they play.
The NHL just got a brand new rivalry, but unfortunately they don’t play each other again until next season.
