No one's quite sure the true origin of the playoff beard, but the custom has been firmly cemented into the folklore of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Some players shave their face clean before the playoffs begin, and others already have massive beards, letting them continue to grow larger and larger as they get deeper into the postseason.

Joe Thornton and Brent Burns have massive playoff beards all season long, and Jordie Benn has taken notice. The Montreal Canadiens defenceman has a beard himself, but he's adamant his beard is nothing like Jumbo and Burns beards. Benn insists he's got full control.

We understand what Benn is saying, but Thornton and Burns' beards are legendary.
