Although the World Hockey Championship isn't as big as Olympic hockey, it's still one of the top international tournaments and it's one that features a lot of NHL talent.

Some players that didn't make the playoffs or were eliminated early decided to represent their country at the tournament, so even if your team is out, there's a chance some of your favourite players are still playing.

One of the big names playing at the tournament is Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, and during a game against the United States, he delivered a questionable hit to Nick Schmaltz.

Schmaltz left the game and didn't return, and the United States went on to beat Sweden without him 4-3.

Landeskog wasn't penalized for the hit, but after the game he reached out to Schmaltz by text to apologize for the hit in a nice display of sportsmanship.

Although many fans don't like the hit, it's still nice to see players have respect for each other and aren't too big to reach out and apologize if they feel they've done something wrong.

Landeskog isn't in the clear yet, though, as he'll have a hearing for the hit.

As for Schmaltz, the 21-year-old recorded two assists in his team's first two games and will hopefully be back for their next game Wednesday against Italy.
