The great thing about social media is that it connects fans and athletes all over the world.

Sure, many athletes don't respond to fans on Twitter or Instagram, but some do, and when they do, it usually makes for an awesome moment.

Monday night, hockey fans were treated to an awesome moment similar to this one, but a little more savage.

Adam Larsson of the Oilers took to Twitter to congratulate his teammate, Connor McDavid, on his incredible season.

THE FUTURE IS NOW: #ConnorMcDavid finishes the NHL regular season as the league leader in points with 100.

Pretty harmless tweet, right?  Well, things turned a little hostile when a fan responded with this:

Stating the facts in a rather hurtful way, but nonetheless stating the facts, to which Larsson had the perfect response for:

Game over.

The reaction to Larsson roasting this fan was just as awesome.

Teasing is fun and all, but when a player actually responds, the fun and games are done.

It was probably a good decision by this fan to wish Larsson luck in the playoffs after the fact.

Larsson wasn't the only one who took to Twitter to congratulate McDavid.

Cam Talbot also follow suit with a wonderful tweet.
