It’s ridiculous to think that the person who has made the most noise in the basketball community this year hasn’t even been a player. As fans of the sport know, It has been a dad, and his name is LaVar Ball.

For months, the animated 48-year-old has been a focal point for the media for his ridiculous claims and remarks about his son; former UCLA Bruin and NBA prospect Lonzo.

LaVar has publicly stated that he would like to see the his son drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers, but drafting Lonzo comes with the baggage that is his father. Luckily for Lonzo, Lakers president Magic Johnson assured that LaVar will have no effect on the team’s drafting strategy.

The following is an excerpt from ESPN:

“No effect at all. I think what you’re drafting is the son and not the father. I think that you also are gauging and evaluating his son on his ability and what he can do not only on the basketball court but also what he can do for your team. How he can enhance and make your team better.” …

“If we’re fortunate to keep our pick, wherever that is, then you take a look at him. Just like any team who would be drafting in the top four or five would take a look at him and the other players who are there.”

Lonzo is from Anaheim and his LaVar is from LA, so the family’s desire for the former to go to the Lakers makes sense. Luckily, the youngster can breathe, knowing that his outspoken father won’t necessarily impact his future.
