You’re probably not too familiar with the name ‘Casey Mittelstadt’, but if you’re a Buffalo Sabres fan you have a lot to be excited about.

Selected 8th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, the 19-year-old centre is currently in his freshman season at the University of Minnesota and seems to be fitting in just fine after splitting last season with his high school team, Eden Prairie High, and the Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL.

Last weekend, the Golden Gophers hosted the Michigan State Spartans for a two-game back-to-back series on Friday and Saturday and the home team came out on top in both games, taking the first game 3-1 and the second 4-0. In the Golden Gophers’ shutout victory, the Sabres prospect scored his third goal of the season and he was feeling pretty good about it.

After making it 2-0 midway through the first period, the Edina, Minnesota native celebrated his goal by skating by the Michigan State with his hand up looking for some high fives.

As expected, he did not receive any fist bumps from the opposing bench but it was worth a shot.

The University of Minnesota freshman has three goals and six assists for nine points through his first nine games and sits second on the team in points and assists.
