It's not easy to score 40 or more goals in an NHL season (unless you're Wayne Gretzky), but sometimes players can get lucky and light the lamp a bunch in one year, never to do it again throughout their entire career.

Still, those names are in the record books and they are incredibly talented players, and we're going to go over 5 players since the 1999/2000 season you probably forgot 40 or more goals in a single season.

5. Jonathan Cheechoo, San Jose Sharks, 2005/06 - 56 goals

Cheechoo became the first player in Sharks history to score 50 in a season and he won the Rocket Richard trophy that year as the NHL's leading scorer.  Following that 56-goal campaign, Cheechoo scored 37 before declining in production every year until his final season in 2009/10.

4. Alexander Semin, Washington Capitals, 2009/10 - 40 goals

Semin scored over 200 goals during his NHL career, but after scoring 40, he never had another season of 30 or more goals.

3. Scott Young, St. Louis Blues, 2000/01 - 40

Scott Young is probably a name you've never heard before, but he was a really good player.  Drafted in the first round in 1986, Young won 2 Stanley Cups and had 8 seasons of 20 or more goals, including 40 at the age of 33.

2. Brad Boyes, St. Louis Blues, 2007/08 - 43 goals

Another Blues player, this time Brad Boyes, who tallied 43 goals in just his third full season in the NHL.

1. Jason Blake, New York Islanders, 2006/07 - 40 goals

Jason Blake's hockey journey was nothing short of inspiring and his 40-goal season with the Islanders at the age of 33 was incredible to watch.
