We know that the market around trading cards can get pretty eye-opening at the more exclusive levels, when rarity drives up the price among true hardcore collectors.

Still, though, this is notable by any standard. An autographed Luka Doncic rookie card just set a new record for the most expensive basketball card of all-time, selling for $4.6 million.

Not just that, but this card becomes the second most expensive trading card of any sport ever, only trailing a 1952 Mickey Mantle card that sold for $5.2 million.

Not bad for Doncic’s third NBA season, right? The sale went down on Doncic’s 22nd birthday as well, to make it even more special.

Doncic is already of the NBA’s superstars at this stage of his career, with what should be an extremely bright future ahead of him, so that rookie card should only increase in value going forward.

Yeah, the money involved in the trading card game can definitely get pretty wild at times.
