Washington's NFL team officially announced it will be changing its name but a new one has not been chosen yet.
And the reason why is pretty unbelievable.
CBS' Will Brinson reported on Monday morning that a Virginia realtor in Alexandria, Virginia \trademarked basically every name the organization could have used. Phillip's out here playing Chess while owner Dan Snyder is playing Checkers!
Even the 'Radskins' was trademarked!!!!
According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, MaCauley has filed for 44 potential new team names since 2014, and that he has already set up merchandising operations for all of them. Outkick.com noted that he plans to set up a flag football league with the team names, which would insulate him against claims that he's a squatter with no intention of actually using the trademarks he filed for.
Smooth Phil, smooth!!!!
We'll have to see how this unfolds, but the organization definitely has some hurdles to get through.
