Breakaways in hockey are one of the most entertaining aspects of the game. Seeing a player like Connor McDavid utilize his separation speed and head in one-on-one with a goaltender is sure to raise the behinds out of seats. As a player closes in, he must look at the goaltenders positioning and decided whether he wants to shoot or whip out a dirty dangle.

But sometimes, players can overthink it, and lose track of the puck like Adam Erne of the Syracuse Crunch did on Wednesday night.

Adam Erne, who tallied three goals with the Tampa Bay Lightning last season, has yet to find the back of the net in 13 games with the Lighting’s AHL affiliate.

The 22-year-old had a golden oppourtunity to score his first of the season in his 14th game of the year against the Hershey Bears, but had the puck wonder away from his stick in what is surely one of the ugliest breakaway mishaps of all-time.

Yikes.

That’ll give Patrick Stefan a run for his money.

Look at the stare from Bears goaltender Phoenix Copley, who can barely process what just happened.

Other than the puck skipping on him away from his blade, Erne completely bails into Copley’s net afterwards to add a little more salt in the wound.

You’ll be seeing that one on the blooper reel for a considerable amount of time. Poor Adam.
