Adam Ottavino’s first season with the New York Yankees has been a memorable one so far as he entered Wednesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels with a 6-4 record to with a 1.85 ERA and 85 strikeouts over 63.1 innings of work.

However, on Wednesday night the 33-year-old committed his fifth and by far the worst error of his career as he attempted to throw the runner out at home and nearly ended up giving a souvenir to a fan instead.

It ended up being an extremely costly error for Ottavino and the Yankees as the run that came in to score on that play put the Angels up 3-2 and held as the game-winning run.

Ottavino shouldn’t lose sleep over this error, though, as the Yankees sit 9.5 games up on the Boston Red Sox in the AL East and are one win or a Red Sox loss away from clinching the division.
