Two of hockey’s best went head-to-head on Wednesday night, and they exchanged some quality chirps as well. Probably everyone would love to see a fight between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby, and for his part, Ovi extended the invitation.

After Tom Wilson fought with Jamie Oleksiak in the game’s first minute, Ovechkin was jawing with a member of the Penguins, leading Crosby to say, “Why don’t you fight him?” Ovi, brilliantly, ended that conversation by retorting, “Why don’t you fight me?” along with a couple of bad words that we won’t transcribe here.

Crosby didn’t get into any entanglements, but Ovi fought with Kris Letang a few minutes later. The Pens got the last laugh, however, as they snapped Washington’s five-game winning streak in a 2-1 win.

After the game, Crosby suggested that his interaction with Ovechkin was a fairly one-sided one.

We can safely say, though, that Ovi came into this game was energy to spare.
