Put it in the books: That’s another 50-goal season for Alex Ovechkin. On Saturday night, Ovi potted his 50th and, for good measure, 51st goals of the season against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

#AlexOvechkin has notched his 50th goal of the season 🔥

After a few years falling short of 50 — including last year’s 49-goal campaign — Ovi has reached the milestone again for the first time since 2015-16, and this one is a particularly special one.

As this marks his eighth career season of hitting 50 goals, Ovi moves within one of tying Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy for first all-time in 50-goal seasons (9).

Not just that, but with his 657th and 658th career goals, Ovi passes Brendan Shanahan for 13th all-time in goals scored. Next up? Luc Robitaille, at 668.

This season is drawing to a close, but Ovi has plenty of contract left, and presumably plenty of NHL years, still ahead of him. The record books await.
