Who's the most famous athlete in the world? It's a loaded question and there can be many answers to it depending on how you define and measure fame.
In this case, as per ESPN's Sports Analytics Group, athletes were ranked based on "a proprietary formula" that took into account these three factors:
What started with 600 of the biggest names in sports from 68 countries turned into ESPN's World Fame 100 with Cristiano Ronaldo earning the top spot.
You can check out the full list here, but we'll break it down for you in regards to the athletes featured on the list:
No NHL or MLB players, which might be somewhat surprising at first, but when you consider the social presence of hockey players and baseball players compared to other sports, it makes sense.
