Bruce Boudreau was the latest NHL head coach to bite the dust after the Minnesota Wild relieved him of his duties on Saturday. In what can probably be deemed “the year of the firing” at this point, Boudreau was one that came as more of a surprise. While his coaching is still seen as high level, the Wild team was in need of a shakeup after years of mediocrity.

While firings are always tough, Bill Guerin was likely hoping Boudreau would take the news in stride and understand the decision. He… did not.

In an interview with Michael Russo of The Athletic, BB explained the exchange:

After Guerin explained that he wanted to make a change, Boudreau bluntly asked if he was being fired. When Guerin affirmed, Boudreau gave the response you may expect a man of his temperament to give:

“Are you f---ing kidding me?”

While the response makes it seem like Boudreau was shocked with the decision, he went on to say it didn’t come as a complete surprise. Guerin was hired over the summer, and Boudreau explained that he was expecting a change could be made.

“All GMs want their own coach.”

Honestly, we’re just glad we weren’t in the room for this.
