It’s the year of the of the underdog comeback story in professional sports as the Washington Nationals are World Series champions for the first time in franchise history.

The Nationals got off to a terrible start this season as they found themselves in the basement of the league on May 24, similar to the St. Louis Blues’ story last season, but went on an absolute tear once they found their rhythm and they didn’t stop until they were the best team in the league.

Just about every fan and analyst who counted out the Nationals after Bryce Harper departed for Philadelphia is probably feeling a little foolish right now, but are also probably feeling a bit of joy as they got to witness an incredible story and comeback.

Considering Harper bailed on the Nats in order to sign a record-breaking $330 million deal with the Phillies, you can bet baseball fans everywhere had the Bryce Harper jokes ready to go the minute the Nats jumped out in front late in the game.

Congratulations to the Washington Nationals!
