So how valuable do we think a David Ayres hockey card is going to be?

On Friday, Upper Deck announced that they will be releasing a card in their Game-Dated Moments series following Ayres’ win in net for the Carolina Hurricanes as an emergency back-up goalie; like other cards in the series, this card will only be available for a week from launch.

Ayres will also get an official rookie card in an upcoming set scheduled for May.

Ayres isn’t a member of the NHLPA, so Upper Deck had to work with him directly to secure his licensing rights for a card. We’re definitely glad they got a deal done.

There’s nothing in hockey quite like EBUG glory, and since Ayres beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, his life has basically changed overnight. We’re talking hockey cards, appearances on late night talk shows, and yes, even a display in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
