The old saying goes “if you don’t remember the past, history is bound to repeat itself.” In the case of Eric Comrie, he’d love for this particular piece of history to repeat itself in some form.

The New Jersey Devils third string goaltender got a shot at some playing time on Sunday with usual starter MacKenzie Blackwood sitting out due to COVID protocol. It was only his ninth career NHL game, and one in which he picked up his 3rd career win. Being his Devils’ debut, Comrie wore an extra special mask to mark the occasion.

Scott Stevens and Martin Brodeur are featured on one side of the mask, while Glenn “Chico” Resch and Ken Daneyko are shown on the other side. Lucky for us, we got to see Chico’s genuine reaction upon seeing the lid, and it didn’t disappoint.

The Devils will be hoping that Comrie can continue his winning ways, perhaps with a little help of the mini-Devils spirit legends detailed on his helmet.
