Figure skating is a sport of elegance, where only those who can properly balance their on-ice skills with a certain level of grace survive.  Music usually follows suit with the charming displays, whether it be through winding pianos or rousing strings the audio accompaniment often helps to convey the delicacy of ice dancing.

At least it used to.

Figure skating is becoming more and more modern, with popular songs finding their way into routines. This reached a peak when Jimmy Ma decided to start the year off different by bringing the most modernizing song yet to the arena – club favourite and Rolling Stone-voted second best song of 2014, Turn Down For What.

The single released by DJ Snake and Lil’ Jon certainly found a level of popularity that vouches for it to be used in other facets, but we don’t think that anyone thought it would make it into the US Nationals short program.

Remember, this is Jimmy Ma we’re talking about. We aren’t talking about Chazz Michael Michaels.

It didn’t quite get the people going as much as Ma would have hoped. He ended the day in a very middle-of-the-pack 11th place finish.
