David Leggio isn’t a household hockey name, but if it rings a bell, then you may start remember why the goaltender is such a character in in the hockey community.

If you need a refresher, flash back to the  2014-15 season, where Leggio was playing for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the American Hockey League.

During a game against the Springfield Falcons, Leggio showcased one of the oddest tactics – if we can even call it that – in hockey. With the Falcons coming down on a 2-on-0, the goaltender dislodged the net off its pegs by pushing it and drew a whistle from the ref. The move was a precedent setter, as the AHL put in the “Leggio rule” that prohibited goaltenders from intentionally dislodging the net during a game.

Fast forward to the present day, and Leggio is now fine tuning his craft over in Germany playing for Munich EHC, which means he can get away with his signature move since he’s not playing in the AHL anymore. And wouldn’t you know it, Leggio struck again, this time on a breakaway against a team known as the Fischtown Penguins that hail from Bremerhaven.

Look how calm and collected Leggio is after that. He just calmly skates away as if he did nothing wrong. Leggio even gets the puck shot at him and he barely even flinches. The player was awarded a penalty shot, and missed, so chalk this one up as a win for Leggio.

Whiel the DEL will surely enfore the rule, it’s probably time that International Ice Hockey Federation followed the lead of the AHL and enforced the Leggio rule worldwide. Even though Leggio has played in the DEL for three years now, who knows if the Williamsville, New York native will try to pull this stunt again.

Either way, it’s still pretty funny, yet very cheap, to see. Goalies are odd, man.
