It's been another rough season for the Buffalo Sabres.  Entering play Tuesday night, the Sabres are last in the East and four points up on Arizona for the fewest in the NHL.

There have been some bright spots, though, that fans have been able to enjoy thus far.  Jack Eichel has obviously been one of those bright spots with 41 points in 44 games and Evander Kane has been the other with 36 points in 44 games.

We're going to focus on Kane right now, though, because the 26-year-old is a UFA at the end of the season and he's been involved in trade rumours as the deadline approaches and the Sabres continue to fall in the standings.

With Kane well on his way to a possible career high in points, he's already a hot commodity and will become an even more sought after player the closer we get to the deadline.

That said, based on what the Sabres reportedly want for him, they could have trouble moving him.

TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger was on TSN Radio 690 Tuesday and revised what he previously said about the Sabres asking price for Kane:

"If Buffalo gets a first (round pick), a prospect, a roster player and a conditional pick - which I was corrected on, frankly after I wrote that on Friday, they want a roster player in addition to the other three assets - for Evander Kane, a pending unrestricted free agent."

Hockey fans reacted to the news exactly how you would expect.

Nobody is denying that Kane is a really good player and he's having a great season, but the general consensus among hockey fans is the asking price is quite high for a pending UFA.

Unless you trade for him with the intention or signing him long term, then the Sabres might have to ask for a little less, but you can't blame them for starting high, especially with so much time until the deadline.
