Who knows what Major League Baseball would be like today if the Seattle Mariners never signed Ichiro Suzuki back in 2001.

Ichiro became the first Japanese-born position player to sign with an MLB club and that was just the beginning of his legacy. In his rookie season, the Aichi, Japan native led the American League in batting average and stolen bases and went on to win the AL Rookie of the Year and the AL MVP.

Ichiro has always been known for his speed and his ability to get on base. However, the 43-year-old outfielder did something special on Wednesday night in what was most likely his final plate appearance at Safeco Field, his home for a majority of his MLB career.

Playing in what’s most likely his final MLB season, Ichiro got one final at-bat in front of the Seattle faithful in the top of the 9th inning and made no mistake as he blasted his first home run of the season and his final career home run at Safeco Field.

Out of Ichiro’s 115 career home runs, 54 of them have come at Safeco Field.
