New Jersey Devils forward Jack Hughes isn’t one to typically lose his cool but he couldn’t help himself after a call didn’t go his way on Sunday afternoon.

The 2019 first overall pick was assessed a tripping penalty with the Devils down 3-0 in the second period to the Rangers and to say he was livid after would be an understatement. Hughes not only slammed his stick twice on the way to the box, but also threw it onto the ice for a nice little cherry on stop. His actions earned him a 10-minute misconduct.

The guy has just 14 penalty minutes on the year… pretty uncharacteristic.

Apparently the 19-year-old’s outburst was the energy spark the Devils needed. New Jersey went on to score three straight goals after to tie things up but ultimately fell 5-3. The loss marked New Jersey’s sixth in a row and fourth straight to New York.

At least they got a W on Twitter?

Tough times right now in NJ, tough times.
