The Denver Broncos were thrust into no man’s land on Sunday when they were forced to play Week 12 without any of their four rostered quarterbacks available. With Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, and Blake Bortles all considered to have been too high risk following a Jeff Driskel positive test, the Broncos had to turn to Kendall Hinton – an undrafted practice squad wide receiver that had been working in sales just a month earlier.

In fairness, Hinton was selected based on his prior experience under centre at Wake Forest, but even with that everyone and their dog pretty much projected a shellacking. A shellacking is what they got, as the Broncos were only able to muster up three points against the Saints, and Hinton only completed one pass.

For Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, it reminded him of a situation he’d found himself in earlier in the year when he was forced to turn to Ben DiNucci after injuries to Dak Prescott and Andy Dalton. Considering DiNucci is an actual quarterback, that Jerry Jones drafted to play quarterback, and has never been anything other than a quarterback, it’s a pretty outlandish comparison.

"I don't know that Denver had any more of a challenge than we've had with [Ben] DiNucci or with the young quarterbacks that we've had," Jones said. "And, by the way, two or three of those [Broncos] quarterbacks will be back from the [COVID list]."

We get it, DiNucci didn’t pan out. That doesn’t make him comparable to a practice squad wide receiver that played a little quarterback in college.

To put it into perspective, DiNucci went 23-43 for 219 yards in his two appearances. The Broncos would have GLADLY used DiNucci over Hinton. Understandably, fans were a little shocked by the thought.
