Flashback to February 22, 2020. David Ayres becomes an instant legend after he steps into the crease for Carolina and leads them to a historic 6-3 win over the Leafs. Players and fans rejoiced (outside of Toronto at least), but lost in it all was the reason Ayres entered the game in the first place.

Around a year and a half later, everything has come full circle.

In case you forgot, it was Petr Mrazek who got lit up by Kyle Clifford and was forced to leave the game. Now he’s coming back to Toronto and Ayres has the opportunity to back him up again… Our very own Daniel Zakrzewski couldn’t help but crack a joke at the whole situation.

Other fans followed suit and just couldn’t pass up on the opportunity to crack the obvious joke.

Mrazek ultimately signed a three-year deal with a $3.8 million AAV and could push for the starting role if Jack Campbell fails to replicate his numbers from last season. If both goalies go down… the Leafs will know who to call.
