If there’s something Major League Baseball has been constant with this season, it’s been the DRAMA.

Truly, the Young and the Restless have nothing on the league this season.

Within the league’s continued ongoing debate on whether the Unwritten Rules are a make or bust, the Chicago White Sox are the latest team to have taken the spotlight as they internally have begun to tackle the controversy themselves.

During Monday night’s game against the Minnesota Twins, the Twins put in position player Willians Astudillo to take over on the mound when absolute anarchy broke out. While sitting at 3-0 in the box, Yermin Mercedes decided to go all-in on a 47 mph eephus, resulting in a home run for the young player to bring the Sox up 16-4.

Though of course with baseball traditionalists, this did not sit right at all.

We mean, the homer did nothing in the grand scheme of things for the White Sox, so of course Twins manager Rocco Baldelli was not happy with it at all, which Mercedes ultimately just dismissed, claiming he’s not going to change who he is and he’s there to have fun.

Though no one was as upset with Mercedes’ actions than White Sox manager Tony La Russa. Of course on a 3-0, La Russa tossed Mercedes the take sign just in typical fashion so when the rookie not only went against what he ordered him to do, but he performed something so “unsportsmanlike”, you better believe La Russa was absolutely fired up.

So in typical baseball fashion, when the two teams met again on Tuesday they obviously had to battle back and toss in, literally, some of their own heat into the mix.

As Twins Pitcher Tyler Duffey not only tossed behind Mercedes but he was tossed from the game himself along with Baldelli, you can’t be shocked by the Twins taking this approach in all honesty. But of course, following his prior stance, La Russa actually condoned the Twins method of action.

But happily for Mercedes, not only his fellow White Sox teammates, but players across the league and in the baseball community supported him because, in all honesty, you have to let the kids play.
