There hasn’t been an official announcement, but it’s very possible we’ve seen 41-year-old Patrick Marleau suit up in the NHL for the final time. Following the Sharks unfortunate 6-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights, Marleau had one final solo moment before leaving the ice to close the San Jose Sharks season.

We all knew Wednesday’s game was going to be locked and loaded with emotion, but before the puck even dropped the Sharks were already honouring Patty. In celebration of Marleau’s historic arrival atop the NHL’s all-time games played list, Marleau was given a couple special presents.

Imagine having Gordie Howe’s final game used stick in your house? That is pretty much the coolest piece of sports memorabilia imaginable.

A classy move by the Sharks players, the Howe family, the NHLPA, and the Hockey Hall of Fame to make this happen. If a player ever somehow manages to break Marleau’s games played mark, we’re sure they’ll be getting a special delivery on Marleau’s stick.
