A majority of hockey fans today probably weren’t even born yet when the Pittsburgh Penguins’ ownership group took a stake in the Central Red Army hockey team after the breakup of the Soviet Union in the early 90’s, but there’s a documentary they can watch to learn all about it.

Writer-director Gabe Polsky’s Red Penguins will be available for streaming next month, but there’s a trailer you can watch that’s bound to get you excited for the full feature.

Polsky was responsible for Red Army, a film that showed how the USSR’s Olympic stars migrated to the NHL, and now he’s telling the story of group of people, which included Michael J. Fox, attempting to bring NHL showmanship over to Russia.

This year, the film is being released outside of TIFF for the very first time and will be available for streaming across Canada and the United States starting August 4th, so don't forget to set yourself a reminder!
