There are some penalties in hockey that just make you scratch your head.

Sean Monahan was the recipient of the weirdest penalty this season earlier this afternoon when he was sent to the box for a delay of game penalty. For Flames fans, the most infuriating part of the whole ordeal was that it had to do with a completely relatable issue; a lace came undone. He was given two minutes for trying to rectify the issue at the faceoff dot and the stripes were having none of it.

Come on…

Fans weren’t the most impressed with the call.

And this dude had to pull out the cheesiest joke of 2018. Get it? “De-lace of game?”

Brutal!

To add salt to the wound, the penalty took place with 2:37 seconds left in the third period. The Flames ended up holding the Wild off and came away with a 2-1 victory, moving into a tie with the Winnipeg Jets for second place in the league. They now lead the Pacific division by five points over the San Jose Shakrs (39).

Let this be a lesson hockey player; head to the bench if your lace comes undone on the ice. You might cost your team otherwise!
