Dion Phaneuf’s time with the Ottawa Senators appears to have come to an end.

On Tuesday night, the 32-year-old was pulled from the Senators’ game in the third period after it appeared he was being dealt and that’s exactly what happened.

There were a lot of rumours surrounding the Senators and the possible moves they were going to make leading up to the deadline and they made a huge splash by sending Phaneuf, along with Nate Thompson, to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore.

Since the deal came completely out of nowhere, you can bet a lot of fans were in shock when it happened.

Phaneuf appeared in 153 games with the Senators and will join his fourth NHL club and first American franchise, while Gaborik suited up for 227 games with the LA Kings and will now join his fifth NHL franchise and first Canadian club.

The two teams have already played each other twice this season, so we’ll have to wait until next year for the Dion Phaneuf reunion in Ottawa.
