There are so many reasons to love NHL outdoor games. You’ve got the custom jerseys, the authentic hockey feel, and of course the gorgeous outdoor rinks.

Whether it’s the Heritage Classic or the Stadium Series, the NHL has been doing outdoor games for a while now. Since 2003, there have been 30 different games that have taken place out in mother nature.

For the first 29, there was one thing that they all had in common - not a single hat trick.

The LA Kings and Colorado Avalanche played in the most recent outdoor game on Saturday night at Falcon Stadium. In the final minute of play, Toffoli scored twice including an empty netter to pick up the first ever outdoor hatty.

Hopefully not too many people attempted to throw their hats onto the ice, because it was a chilly one in Colorado.
