Three years ago yesterday, the tragedy of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash rocked the hockey world forever. 16 members of the team died that day, and the horrific accident will forever have an impact on the hockey world.

In the wake of the destruction following the crash, though, Humboldt Broncos defensemen Logan Boulet gave a beautiful gift in an unthinkably dark time. Boulet was a registered organ donor, and although he died tragically in the crash, his selfless donation saved six others who badly needed organs.

Every April 7th, we celebrate Green Shirt Day in his honour. Now in its third year, the entire hockey world is rallying around the worthy cause and encouraging others to register as donors, all in honour of the Logan Boulet Effect.

We’re thinking of all the victims and their loved ones today, and we’re forever inspired by Logan’s selflessness.
