The New York Rangers are the lucky winners of the NHL's (wild) 2020 Draft Lottery, but it would not have happened without a little help from a division rival.

Had it not been for the Carolina Hurricanes, the Rangers would have had their sites set on a different prospect this October. Carolina cruised past the Rangers with an easy 3-0 series win, and made sure to remind the blue shirts that they actually did them a solid by whipping their butts in the NHL's postseason play-in round.

Wow. What a nice team. Maybe they're not such a bunch of jerks after all?

Deep down you know the Canes are just a little rattled from this. Sure, they're moving on and have a very decent shot of making a run at the Cup this season, but now they'll have to face a potential generational talent in Alexis Lafreniere numerous times a season for years to come. oh well, it's not like that Svechnikov guy, who the team drafted second overall in 2018, turned out to be a bust...

Consider this one a favour, Rangers.
