Teams would do anything to secure a generational talent. Guys like Crosby, McDavid and Ovi only come around every so often. Sometimes you don’t get that lucky as players are eligible for the year before or after you land a high draft pick.
The Panthers were in this situation the year before NHL great Alex Ovechkin was available to be drafted as they had the number 3 overall pick in the draft.
The Panthers wanted him so bad they used an interesting tactic to try and get him into their draft.
