Laine’s shot is ridiculous, and you can see why in his first ever playoff goal.

The Winnipeg Jets technically won their first game in franchise history against the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday night (If you trace them back to the Atlanta franchise), so it’s fitting that it comes with Laine’s first ever playoff goal. He’s one of the youngest players on the team and he will be a huge part of any success they have in the future.

Part of how he’s doing it is with a more modern approach to shooting. Our resident Jets fan, Jesse, received a snapchat from a friend pointing out the ridiculous flex on his stick and he wasn’t the only one to notice.

This isn’t a new thing, but it is a reminder of how players will take advantage the technology of composite sticks moving forward. Phil Kessel was one of the first players in the league we saw really take advantage of the new whippier sticks on a wrist shot, but we’re sure more and more people will do that as more players who grew up with composite sticks make it into the league.

There’s a different strategy to it, just as Mike Johnson pointed out. Laine is able to hold his top hand further out from his body which allows him to get more torque on the stick with his lower hand.

It makes sense that Laine would use a new stick every power play when he’s torqueing them like this.
