It’s one of the silly brain farts moves a hockey player growing up experienced in one way or another.

Keeping your skate guards on without taking them off prior to jumping out on the ice and then wiping out is one of the silliest and most embarrassing things any hockey player can be a part of.

While you may think it happens in mostly minor hockey, Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Tatar fell victim to the old gaffe. Most Wings players will remember the first time they stepped onto the new sheet of ice in Hockeytown, but for forward Tomas Tatar, he’ll never live it down.

Tatar posted on his Instagram page on Tuesday of some footage of the very first time he skated on the ice at Little Caesars arena back on September 25th prior to a preseason game against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

As Tatar ran out through the Wings’ bench onto the ice, he blew an absolute tire as he wiped out and landed on his back because he forgot to take his skate guards off.

Even if you’re now longer a kid, you simply cannot help yourself by laughing at Tatar’s expense.

In 18 games with the Wings this season, Tatar has four goals and three assists.
