The Marc-Andre Fleury trade opened up a whollllleeee can of worms on Tuesday.

For starters, the reigning Vezina winner was essentially traded for a bag of peanuts to a team he later revealed he didn’t want to go to. But to make matters worse, Fleury didn’t hear about the trade from Vegas.

Instead, he found out on Twitter.

It’s tough to believe that arguably the most respected goalie in the game wouldn’t even get a heads up about getting traded at the age of 36 but here we are, and Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon did his best to try and make sense of the situation with the media. According to McCrimmon, he let The Flower know Chicago had interest in him but revealed he never tells a player they’ve been traded until it actually goes through.

It clearly didn’t take long for Fleury and his family to ehar about the news after the deal was ultimately struck.

McCrimmon also added that he and Fleury spoke at their year-end meeting and informed the latter that he did not yet know what the team’s goaltending situation would look like the following season.

Regardless of their conversations, it’s safe to say Fleury’s agent Allan Walsh is not pleased with how things went down. Walsh has never been one to shy away from burying Vegas online and didn’t hesitate after explaining his client had not heard from the team regarding the trade.

We’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for Fleury’s future but you’d have to think he’s pretty upset with the way things went down. Robin Lehner will man the crease for the Golden Knights going forward.
