Two-time All-Star Pablo Sandoval’s days with the Boston Red Sox appear to be over, as the team announced Friday they would be designating the third baseman for assignment.

Sandoval has had both injury issues and problems staying in shape during his tenure with the team, and at the end of the day things just never worked out between him and the Red Sox.

In the winter of 2014 the Red Sox signed Sandoval to a $90 million contract, and it’s hard to believe how much money the team will still owe him even if he never plays another game for them.

Despite releasing Sandoval, the Red Sox still owe him a large chunk of change. #SCFacts

To put that amount into perspective for hockey fans, Connor McDavid's average annual value is $12.5 million, while Sandoval could be sitting at home over the next two years collecting $49.5 million.
