The Toronto Maple Leafs made headlines earlier today after they announced the hiring of Canadian Olympic gold medalist Hayley Wickenhesiser. The Saskatchewan native will serve as the organization’s assistant director of player development after calling it a career in 2017. The news obviously spread like wildfire, and despite all of the noise, the players appear to be on board. When commenting on the acquisition, Zach Hyman made it clear that he’s all for it.

Few women currently serve in a front office role with an NHL club. As you could expect, she was nothing but humble when commenting on the new move.

After a storied career which saw her win gold in four different Olympics, Wickenheiser has proven she understands the science behind winning. Whether she knows what it takes to win in a front office role is a different story, and will be revealed in the coming months.
