The Colorado Avalanche’s ECHL affiliate Colorado Eagles hosted the Washington Capitals’ ECHL affiliate South Carolina Stingrays in the first game of a two-game series on Friday night. This season has gone different ways for both teams, with the Eagles sitting in 1st place in the ECHL with 84 points and the Stingrays sitting at 63 points and 9th place in a highly competitive Eastern Conference.

Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, the Eagles were looking to get back in the game before the third period. That’s when defenceman Teigan Zahn stepped up and scored the nicest goal of his career.

That goal ended up swinging the momentum over to the Eagles, who went on to win 5-4 for their 17th straight victory.

As for the 27-year-old defenceman, he was first drafted 132nd overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and then was drafted again two years later at 186th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has spent the last three seasons with the Eagles, accumulating 9 goals, 41 points, and a whopping 652 penalty minutes in 185 games.
