The KHL is down to its final two teams with SKA Saint Petersburg and Metallurg Mg battling it out for the Gagarin Cup.

With the two teams even at a game apiece, the third game of the series took place on Wednesday night and Metallurg Mg did not get the start they were hoping for after taking Game 2, 3-1.

Nearing the five minute mark of the opening frame, SKA defenceman Andrey Zubarev decided to test his luck and fire a shot on net from centre ice. What happened next shocked everyone, including the 30-year-old defenceman.

The goal was Zubarev’s first of the postseason and his first goal since the 2014-15 season.

That’s not the first time that’s happened this postseason. HC Dynamo Moscow defenceman Andrei Kuteikin scored THREE goals from centre ice before his team was eliminated.

There’s never any harm in firing the puck on your opponent’s net.
